DATOM+edu
The program proposes a mark. The teacher decides.
DATOM+edu is DATOM's teaching line. Its first piece is a teaching platform for a science course that runs on the teacher's own computer: grading of scanned and typed work with the teacher in the loop, a gradebook with retakes and a Canvas handoff, a course assistant, and an evidence view of what the class's work shows. The models run on that same machine. Names and student records stay there.
A mark, the evidence for it, and how sure the program is.
Every mark is checked before it counts. A grade stays preliminary until the review is finished.
How often the program's marks stood, measured per job.
AI cannot be fully trusted in science, and it cannot be fully trusted with a student's grade. That is where the verification layer comes in: the teacher's review is the check, and the platform keeps a measured record of how often the program's marks stood.
What it does
Six panels. One course folder.
Grading
Scanned paper exams and typed work, graded against the teacher's answer key or criteria. The teacher reads each proposed mark on the answer check screen and corrects it in place. Feedback is written for each student and read back against the facts before it goes out.
Gradebook
Course grades by marking period from the grading policy the teacher wrote, with retakes, scores entered by hand, and an export in Canvas's import format. Formative work is practice only and never moves the grade.
Students
Each student's year on one screen, and a progress report for the family.
Evidence
What the class's work shows: by standard, by question, by mistake, and what to reteach. A teaching brief for a teacher working outside their own subject.
Assistant
Ask anything about the course, a grading job, a student, or the gradebook. It answers only from the course record, cites the document for every policy statement, and says when the answer is not in the record.
Department view
A department head sees the evidence and the aggregate, with no student named. Groups under five are dropped. Access is a key the teacher issues and can revoke.
Where the data lives
On the teacher's computer.
- Scans, rosters, grades and the models stay on the teacher's Mac. There is no account and no cloud copy.
- Nothing about a student is sent anywhere in the background. What leaves is a file the teacher chose to make: grades for Canvas, a family's progress report, or a counts only summary for the department.
- The program never writes into Canvas or any gradebook. It makes files the teacher uploads.
- A grade stays preliminary until the teacher's review is finished.
- Student names appear only to the teacher. They are never in the department view, in logs, or in any shared file.
- Every write into the course folder is backed up first and needs the teacher's approval. Delete moves to the Trash; nothing is erased.
- DATOM+edu never touches DATOM's cloud. It is a separate program on a separate machine.
Beyond written work
Technique, graded against the protocol.
The same scoring engine that grades a laboratory run for a research group grades technique against a written protocol, step by step. A classroom trainer built on it is being built. A run in a trainer shows procedural competency; it is never presented as a real result. What DATOM does for research groups →

Who is behind it
DATOM, Inc. builds verification software for science. The founder, Jordan D. Jones, PhD, teaches high school biology, built DATOM+edu for that course, and grades with it.
