Privacy Policy

Effective 22 July 2026

This explains, in plain language, what information DATOM collects when you use datom.science, where it goes, who helps us process it, and how long it is kept. Reading a record never requires an account and collects nothing beyond ordinary web-server logs.

The short version

What we collect

WhatWhen
The questions you type to Elmer, our chat assistantWhen you ask about a claim on any page
Your name, email, organization, and the free-text answers you give (the claim, its context, your decision)When you request a Confidence Report or a pilot on the Get Started page
A file you upload, such as a pitch deck or a documentOnly when you attach one
Your email and name for an accountOnly if you create one
Standard web-server request data, including your IP addressOn every request, like any website

Your IP address is used to rate-limit the chat and is not stored in our application databases for public form submissions. We do not ask for, and you should not send, government IDs, financial account numbers, or passwords through any chat or form.

A note on health questions. You can ask Elmer about health claims, and the wording of your question may be kept in our operational logs to improve how questions are matched to records. Please do not include personal health information about yourself or anyone else, or anything that identifies you, in what you type.

How we use it

Aggregate search sentiment

When your question resolves to a claim on the record, we keep the wording of that search as a measure of public interest in the claim. It is stored identity-dissociated by design: attached to the claim you searched, a timestamp, and how the match was made, and nothing else. Your IP address, your account, and any identifier are never attached to it, so it cannot be traced back to you.

We use this only in aggregate, to see how the public phrases and prioritizes claims, which informs what we verify next. We may license or sell this search sentiment to others, but only as aggregates, and never in a form that identifies any person. It carries no weight in any verdict or grade: the scoring system has no read path to it at all. Please do not type anything that identifies you into a search or chat.

Who processes it for us

DATOM runs on Amazon Web Services and relies on a small number of service providers. We share only what each needs to do its job, and only to serve your request.

What stays in your browser

We set no cookies. Elmer keeps your current chat in your browser's session storage so the conversation survives moving between pages; it is cleared when you close the tab. The "this is not medical advice" notice records that you have acknowledged it, for the session. That is all.

How long we keep it

Records you asked us to check, and the details of a request or account, are kept while they remain useful for the service and our records. Generated report files are deleted after 90 days. Operational logs are kept for troubleshooting and to plan what to verify next. To have information about you deleted sooner, email us at the address below and we will act on it.

Your choices

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing legal@datom.science. If you are a California resident, the CCPA rights described in our Terms apply, and requests go to the same address. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.

Children

DATOM is intended for professional and general-audience use by adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
